Without good usability, visitors do not have a good experience which can then hurt your chances of engaging with them. This can be frustrating for them and for you, and reverse all the effort and money of an otherwise good website. We find that an objective third-party, with the skills and experience to identify usability problems can be a fast and effective solution. You and your in-house team are often too close to evaluate this objectively. Also, sometimes it's much more 'diplomatic' to have an outsider bring up the challenges that the website is facing.
